Terms and conditions


In reserving your place on L’atelier des écrivains online, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions:

After initial reservation you will receive an email with payment details.  A deposit of 30% of the workshop total is required at this stage, and your booking is only considered definite once we have confirmed receipt of your deposit by email. The balance of your course fee is payable no later than six weeks before the course or retreat starts.  A staggered payment plan is available on request, but will include a surcharge. Unpaid or late balances risk being treated as a cancellation. If we do not receive your balance when it’s due, we reserve the right to offer your place to someone else.

Dietary Requirements
Once you have reserved your place, you will receive a Dietary Requirements form.  Please use this to alert us to any special dietary needs.

Food and drink
All meals, drinks, plus refreshments throughout the day are included.  On the Friday evening we will walk to enjoy aperitifs at the pretty central square in Aubeterre - these are not included in the price of the workshop. The meal at La Taverne following drinks is included.  We will provide wine and beer at the venue.

Travel insurance
We cannot reimburse travel costs or other losses incurred by you in the event of cancellation by us or you. You are strongly advised to take out travel insurance to cover potential loss arising from cancellation or other eventuality affecting your booking, including course fees and travel costs. You should check that any policy you take meets your needs.

In the case of cancellations before the six weeks full-payment, we will retain the full deposit paid. If you cancel after you have paid the full amount, we will do our best to find someone else to take your place and, if we succeed, the balance of your fee (less the full deposit) will be returned to you. If we cannot re-fill your place, we will retain any payments you have made. If we have to cancel the course due to unforeseen circumstances, all payments including deposit, will be repaid.  

Changes to the programme
L’atelier des écrivains reserves the right to make changes to the advertised workshop and tutor. As we plan the workshops in advance, tutors may become unavailable, but we will always endeavour to replace tutors with someone of similar experience, and to give you as much notice as possible. Please note that where we have to change tutors, you do not have additional rights of cancellation and our standard terms still apply. We cannot pay travel or other costs, which you may however be able to reclaim from your travel insurance policy, and our liability to you in all cases is limited to the course fee you have paid.

Our workshops rely on a supportive environment that depends on tolerance and understanding of all participants and tutors and their creative work. We therefore ask that you are thoughtful and respectful of other guest-writers.

Damage and cleaning
Please treat your accommodation with care and respect. We will seek reimbursement for any damage caused, or excessive cleaning required as a result of your stay.

Please note that with the exception of guide dogs, pets are not permitted.

Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside your accommodation.  

Privacy and data
By booking, you agree that we may collect and store personal information about you and your interactions with l’atelier des écrivains. This includes: your personal contact details; gender; details of your booking and booking history, including any access and dietary needs you have told us about; records of payments (not including credit/debit cards numbers, etc.); any correspondence and any other information we need to keep in order to administer your booking. All personal information is kept securely on electronic systems. We will not store payment card details. We will use this information to communicate with you about your booking and we may, unless you tell us otherwise, communicate with you occasionally about our work and other courses and support for writers that we offer. We never share or
sell information about our course participants with any third party, either in aggregate or in individual form. You can opt out of communication at any time. 

The private Facebook group
All guest-writers have the option of being added to a private Facebook Group for ongoing support, advice and motivation. Membership is for paying guests only. You have the option to remove the group at any time.

L’atelier des écrivains cannot accept responsibility for any loss, damage or expense sustained by guest-writers as a result of an event or circumstance whether arising from natural cause, human agency, or beyond its control otherwise. Please check that such things are covered with your travel insurance policy.

Participation and access
L’atelier des écrivains is committed to providing a supportive and welcoming environment to all. If you have specific needs, please discuss these at the time of reservation, so we are able to establish how to meet your requirements .

Comments and complaints
While l’atelier des écrivains will make every effort to provide high-quality experiences for all guest-writers, you may on occasion want to offer comments or make a complaint. At the end of every stay we will give you the opportunity to provide feedback through our evaluation form, but if you feel this is not sufficient, you may wish to make a formal complaint. A copy of our complaints procedure can be found on our website. Note that all complaints should be made in writing, within ten working days of the end of your course or retreat.

You will be asked to sign a Waiver and Release of Liability Disclaimer at the time of full payment for attending the course.  If you do not return this form signed, you will not be able to attend the course, and will lose your deposit.
